How traditional damascus is made
Forging of traditional damascus

A stack of steel and iron strips (A) is forged (about 1000-1300 Celcius) into a solid bar. The bar is then stretched, cut, restacked and reforged until suitable amount of layers has been produced. To create pattern the bar can be for example twisted (C) around its axis. Complex blades are often constructed from several layered and patterned bars (E).
